     The Town of Mercer will be able to revitalize the downtown area as a result of a $631,008 Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) grant, State Senator Bob Jauch (D-Poplar) and State Representative Gary Sherman (D-Port Wing) said today. The two legislators joined Mercer community leaders at a community breakfast in Mercer to celebrate the grant announcement.

     State Senator Bob Jauch (D-Poplar) and State Representative Gary Sherman (D-Port Wing) will join local officials and community members on Monday, October 27th at the Mercer Community Center at 10 a.m. to recognize the receipt of a $631,008 Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) grant for the Mercer Downtown Enhancement Project.

     The Wisconsin Association of Assessing Officers, (WAAO) presented Representative Mark Gottlieb, Senator Robert Jauch, and Senator Spencer Coggs the 2008 Fair and Equitable Award. This award was given for efforts to close inappropriate property tax loopholes, thus reducing the annual property tax bill for the average homeowner.

     State Senator Bob Jauch (D-Poplar) was honored recently by the Wisconsin Counties Association (WCA) with a “WCA Outstanding Legislator Award” for his work on behalf of county government during the 2007-2008 Legislative Session.

     The Town of La Pointe and Ashland County will soon be able to provide bicyclists with safer passage of County Highway H into Big Bay State Park as a result of a $608,800 Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) grant, State Senator Bob Jauch (D-Poplar) and State Representative Gary Sherman (D-Port Wing) said today in a meeting with local officials to discuss the project.

     State Senator Bob Jauch (D-Poplar) acknowledged today that the recently announced modified Department of Workforce Development Job Center staff realignment plan is far better than the original plan, but cautioned that close monitoring needs to be maintained so that the safety net services for job seekers are not weakened.

     State Senator Bob Jauch (D-Poplar) will chair a Legislative Council Special Committee on Wisconsin Emergency Management and Continuity of Government this summer and fall. This committee will address and review State emergency operations, review and codify disaster assistance statutes and evaluate proposals to assure continuity of government in the event of emergencies or terrorist attacks.

     Calling it “the most important piece of environmental legislation since the Clean Water and Clean Air Acts,” State Senator Bob Jauch (D-Poplar) praised today’s bill signing of the Great Lakes Water Compact. “The legislation Governor Doyle signed into law affirms our commitment to protecting our natural resources and restores Wisconsin's mantle of environmental leadership,” Jauch said.
